Malaria Attacks a Healthy Pregnant Woman's Placenta and Causes Preeclampsia

This case study tells the true story of Fatoumata, a healthy pregnant woman in rural Gambia who became sick with malaria. The malaria attacked her placenta and caused preeclampsia, a serious health problem during pregnancy. She had high blood pressure, swelling, and pain. Her baby was born early and small. Many women in Africa go through this. In fact, every 7 minutes, a pregnant woman in Africa dies from preeclampsia.

To stop this, we must use early checks like the CRADLE VSA monitor and also protect women from malaria. One way is to use effective anti-malaria soap and cream. This case shows why we need better health care and protection for pregnant women.
